I recently ordered a 3D Printer from 3D Print Czar (http://3dprinterczar.com/) and decided to share my experiences with the printer. Besides I need to get more content on this blog of mine that I keep forgetting about.
I ordered on the 30th of July they posted it on the 4th of August and I got it on the 6th of August. Not bad from China to Regional NSW. 3D Print Czar say that they sent it via Hong Kong Post on their website but gave me a TNT tracking number and it was delivered by the local TNT rep. Little bit long on the processing time but very quick with shipping.
So far I have just unboxed the printer and took photos of the various components of the printer and I am impressed with the quality of the packaging and the components. The plastic parts look as if they have been 3D printed yet still have high quality.
I have things to do tonight so I can’t start the build today but I have set aside a few hours tomorrow to work on the printer. I have also picked up a 1KG roll of glow in the dark PLA off Ebay to use with the printer.
Got home from my holidays today. Only ended up staying a week as I got all the essential tasks done on one day and all the optional tasks done on two separate days.
The suit fitting that I had to get done was surprisingly easy. I only needed to have the legs taken up on my pants as the rest was a perfect fit. I also visited one of the markets on that day and picked up several good but cheap shirts and pants for general use so I am pleased with my self. That was the first Sunday.
On the monday and tuesday I attempted to put out a call over a couple of nearby repeaters but the rubber ducky antennas shipped with the wouxuns are useless. I managed to get to Jaycar to get the parts to build an antenna only for them to not carry SMA to PL-259 addaptors so I was unable to use any antennas with my hand held. That was annoying.
During the trip I also visited a supplier for the laser engraving industry and am in the process of deciding what items will be worth ordering. I am already planning on getting a bulk lot of blank pet tags and blank nametags to be engraved to client’s requests.
The worst part about the trip home was the train being delayed due to trackwork but that was not too bad. The next worst part was when my laptop battery went flat. Normally that would not be too bad but I am hooked on a new indie game called Towns. http://www.townsgame.com Expect a video of this game in the next few days once I get settled in to routine again. Expect a hardcore survival minecraft video within a similar timeframe too.
It’s late and I should have been in bed hours ago so bye everybody.
I have to go to Sydney for a suit fitting in preperation for a couple of weddings later on this year so insted of making several 6 hour trips back and forth in between fittings and adjustments I decided to go for a holiday for the two to three weeks and stay with relations for that time.
I’ll be taking a hand held dual band 2M/70CM radio with me for the trip. Chances are good for my being able to access the VK2RLD repeater with my hand held but even if they are not I’ll have easy access to components in the area to home brew a 2M antenna. All that is neeed to build antenas after all is a Jaycar and a Bunnings and some time to experiment. Heck I’ll probably build a couple of antennas while down just for that reason.
On another front I am seriously considering setting up a public Tekkit modde Minecraft server. I’ll be doing that on a spare computer that I will be setting up so that I can have remote access to my network here at home. Biggest problem with such a server is a lack of players. I don’t want to set it up if it won’t get used but I if I don’t set it up then I won’t know if it isnt being used. I could set it up on antlair.com but that comes with another limitation which is RAM. 100/100mbit is useless if you only have 2GB of ram after all. But antlair will probably hold the server until I decide what to do properly. Besides it isn’t my home connection so won’t go down if things fail and I am not around to fix it.
Well it is late and I am rambeling a bit so I’m signing off now. Bye
Chocolate making is a new hobby of mine that I have recently taken up. I have a chocolate making kit with several moulds and I can get bulk milk, dark and white chocolate locally. Once I get good with doing it this way I will try my hand at making it from scratch to see how I go with it.
I received my Raspberry Pi on Friday and have been playing around with it. The device is awesome I have never had such a powerful device at my fingertips for embedding. I was originally going to wait for the Arduino Due but now I am going to get a couple of adapters made up to buffer my Raspberry Pi’s IO ports to use with prototyping. A 700MHZ ARM CPU with linux support is a lot better then a 90MHZ ARM cpu like on the Due.
The IO options on the Raspberry Pi are awsome. I2C and SPI on such a powerful board are great. The only problem I have so far is hte lack of hardware UART ports but there are USB ports available so that could be fixed with a USB hub and some FTDI chips or even a USB compatible atmega such as the newer arduino boards.
I’d build my lightning trigger on the Pi if I had a fast analog to digital converter but for now it and the inervalometer will remain on an arduino board because it doesnt need all the features or speed of a Pi.
I have started season 2 of my minecraft Hardcore survival series. This season features a normal standard randomly generated map insted of the survival island style seed of the first map.
This map is a lot better in some ways as it starts out hard although it does get easier as play progresses. This map also features more things that can be a trap for the unweary like myself so it will be interesting to see how this season goes compared to the first season.
So far I have set myself a few basic challenges. The first is to build a lookout tower on top of the mountain which contains my home. My second challenge is to build an underwater farm. My third challenge is to get to the nether and build a blaze farm. And my fourth challenge if I get that far is to kill the enderdragon.
Ive been experimenting with using a software defined radio receiver while waiting to receive my ametaure radio license. I have been using an RTL2832U based USB tv tuner dongle with SDR Sharp (SDR#)
My current antenna setup is not the best but I plan on fixing that soon. I intend on getting a discone antenna for my scanner and the SDR receiver due to it’s wide bandwidth and omnidirectional nature. But even with my current setup of the main TV antenna I am getting great results at least of high power stuff like broadcast FM
Took me a couple of days worth of fiddling to get SDR-Sharp to work with my dongle but once I got it the setup works great.I tried HDSDR but have been unable to get my card to work with it. But I will figure it out
I am now trying to figure out the windows port of Digital Signal Decoder (DSD) to experiment with receiving digital signals such as P25 but thats on the back burner a bit. I also intend on playing around with GNU Radio when I finally install Linux onto my laptop again. Got the partition all ready and waiting.
Just a quick post to let you all know that season 1 of my Hardcore survival island series in Minecraft is now finished. It was fun while it lasted but now it is over due to a supprise attack by a creeper.
I know I’m late to the game but I decided to start a new hardcore Minecraft video series for fun. I’m in it to get experience with video editing and voice acting which I defiantly need as my voice is suited to the era of silent movies.
I found a seed for a survival island style map with a zombie dungeon right under the surface. I have set myself a few basic goals to start with, a zombie based exp farm. An artificial island, a decent house, a tree farm and a wheat farm and to try and find the mainland.
My first episode:
I also do streams of other games I have from time to time depending on what strikes my interest at the time. The one other game I have done a livestream of is Hord.
On Other news I have made an Internet enabled temprature and humidity sensor using an arduino. You can view it on Cosm here: https://cosm.com/feeds/26252 I did nearly complete a time-lapse controller using an Arduino but lost all the code on a HDD crash on my laptop. I am also working on a lightning based trigger for my DSLR. I will be setting up some kind of syncing system with my new NAS to ensure that this does not happen again.
In other news I have a laser cutting and engraving machine as I am starting a laser engraving business. This will come in handy with some of my projects since I get to laser cut and engrave front panels for my projects myself on my own machine. If anyone is interested in such services feel free to get in contact.
